Poppy - female Akita Cross

Four year old Poppy has had a few up and downs lately and found herself being sold on the internet to an inappropriate home. Thankfully she's now secure with us, and ready for a hero family to step forward, one that can offer her some stability. Poppy loves people she knows but she's very wary of strangers, especially if they try to formally handle her. Safe to say she's not a great fan of the vet team! When she is comfortable with people, she can be very playful and loves to zoomie around like mad. On lead, Poppy is very strong and would benefit from her family keeping up with the loose lead walking training that her carers have begun. She does settle down once she's been out for a spell. She loves a fuss but if you startle her she'll flinch, so we keep it on Poppy's terms. When she comes and actively seeks attention, she gets lots until she tells us she's had enough and is allowed to move away. She tolerates being brushed but is never forced and is always free to leave when she wants to, which works well for everyone. Poppy can be social with other dogs but she prefers those that don't really want to interact with her. Once she's settled at home, so me well chosen friends that ignore her would be ideal! Poppy just loves to learn and is very trainable, and teaching her some fun tricks could be a great way to bond with her.

Poppy needs a home free from children and any other pets. She is house trained and could be OK with being left alone for a couple of hours once she has settled in. Her new adopters will have to visit her a few times at the centre, so long distance applications are unlikely to be successful.
